Achieving the prestigious red and white belt, he holds a record in World Championships that remains unmatched. With 365 wins and no losses in BJJ competition, Master Rigan Machado is an invaluable guiding light of inspiration for both novices and seasoned practitioners.
Head Professor Troy Pettyjohn: An Odyssey of Excellence
Head Professor Troy Pettyjohn embodies the spirit of resilience and the pursuit of excellence. Having embarked on his martial arts adventure in 1981, Troy’s dedication to self-defense evolved into a pursuit of black belts in multiple disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (awarded October 2019). As the head professor of the adults Jiu-Jitsu program and Judo sensei, Troy brings over four decades of experience, a certified second-degree Judo black belt, and leadership skills honed through Northern Colorado Jiu-Jitsu’s Leadership Jiu-Jitsu Program.
Head Professor Matt Shoup: From Fear to Empowerment
Fear of bullying led Head Professor Matt Shoup to the world of Jiu-Jitsu in 2007. Over the past 16 years, Matt has not only transformed his own life through BJJ but has also dedicated himself to empowering children and law enforcement personnel. As the head professor of Northern Colorado Jiu-Jitsu’s children’s program and the creator of The Gentle Art of Leadership Program, Matt’s passion for teaching extends beyond the mats.
Head Judo Sensei Greg Becker: A Lifelong Commitment
Growing up with a passion for martial arts, Head Judo Sensei Greg Becker’s path started with Tang Soo Do, eventually leading him to the world of Judo. With a 4th Degree Black Belt in Judo, Greg is dedicated to passing on the invaluable lessons of Judo to students. As the head sensei for the Judo program at NOCO Jiu-Jitsu, Greg is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Rigan Machado.

Professor Mike Durant’s martial arts adventure began in Charleston, S.C., where he earned his black belt.
