Martial arts are not just about fighting, but also about the benefits that come with it. Martial arts offer discipline, self-defense, and a way of life. Northern Colorado Jiu Jitsu understands this and has instructors who are passionate about improving and protecting the lives of others. Head Judo Sensei Greg Becker is one of the instructors who is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with others. In this article, we will explore the life of Greg Becker and the power of Judo in improving and protecting lives.
Early Life and Love for Martial Arts
At a young age, Greg discovered his love for martial arts. However, it wasn’t until 1987 when a karate program started in his local town that he could pursue his passion. The karate program taught a Korean martial art called Tang Soo Do. Greg committed himself completely to his study of Tang Soo Do, eventually earning his 3rd Degree Black Belt.
Love for Judo
Greg’s passion for Judo also evolved from his love of wrestling, which he competed in through middle school and high school. In 1995, he stumbled into a Judo Dojo in Fort Collins and instantly fell in love with this new grappling martial art. Greg continues his personal journey in Judo to this day and currently holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in Judo and is a Renshi in the Iwayama Ryu school of Judo.
Advantages of practicing Judo
Judo principles and techniques focus on using an attacker’s strength and momentum against them, allowing a smaller person to defend themselves against a larger opponent. This is an essential skill for anyone, especially for women who may find themselves in dangerous situations.
Judo is more than just a martial art; it is a way of life that can improve and protect lives. Judo teaches discipline, respect, and humility. Students learn to control their bodies and minds, which will benefit them in every, and all, aspects of their lives, including school, work, and personal relationships.
